The wines of Egly-Ouriet are some of the best examples of Pinot Noir-based, grower Champagne. The wine’s pink highlights in the glass, hint of tannin and sea salt are a textbook example of the flavorful complexity of Pinot Noir-based Champagne. Ambonnay, where Egly-Ouriet has most of its vineyards, is one of 12 villages originally designated grand cru in 1919. Wines from this village—made primarily with Pinot Noir—are known for their power, full flavors and cherry notes. Egly Champagne, young and with age, can resemble fine red Burgundy from Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits.
